Relations with the People’s Republic of China

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations on May 30, 1977, China has proven to be a reliable partner for Barbados, having assisted in the funding of numerous development projects; including the construction and refurbishment of Garfield Sobers Gymnasium. Throughout the years, the Barbados-China relationship has grown in strength, and evidence of this longstanding cooperation was realised with the opening of a Barbados Embassy in Beijing on January 10, 2010. The Government of Barbados and the People’s Republic of China have signed a number of Agreements on Economic and Technical Cooperation. The grant aid from these agreements has been used to fund bilateral projects and have benefited Barbados, inter alia, through the provision of training, consultancies and equipment.
